Practice Before Practicing Magic
Toddlerhood is for learning basic life skills—even at the Hogwarts’ satellite, Moppets Preschool of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The little witches and wizards in attendance learn how to simply handle their school supplies; the only magic happening is of the accidental variety. Handing your toddler a real magic wand is a dangerous idea, especially if they’re able to mumble any incantations. And letting them explore your potion ingredient stores could result in a permanent mess. The best way to prepare your little one for their magical education lies in using Muggle tools.
Practicing how to hold a crayon will help them develop the proper grip for wielding a wand. They can chant whatever they’d like while they wave their crayons in the air. Using glue and glitter lets them learn how to carefully utilize those future potions ingredients (and how to clean them up). The only wizard-thing we suggest they use, before having control of their magic, is a set of robes. After all, knowing how to dramatically sweep down a hallway without tripping or twist away in a whirl of fabric while Apparating is an important skill to develop.
